2010 was proclaimed by the United Nations as The International Year of Biodiversity (IYB 2010) primarily because significantly rate of biodiversity loss throughout the world. Biodiversity is ‘the variety of life on Earth’, it is the wide range of plants, animals and minerals we depend on for our food, health, fuel and services. This year we are being invited to focus on what we have and to think about how we can safeguard it for future generations.
The International Year of Biodiversity has been launched at a ceremony in Berlin 11 January 2010.
